A cool season, low-growing plant. Forms rosettes of flat, grass-like leaves from a bulb below the ground. Although most of its growth takes place in cool weather, the umbrella cluster of small, pink flowers rise up and tower over the leaves like a chandelier during the summer months. Visually unique compared to many other native flowering perennials. Tolerant of drought once established, and great for use in unforgiving environments such as rocky soils. Plant parts have a distinct onion scent, which tends to deter deer and other herbivores looking for a snack.
