ALNUS SERRULATA (Smooth Alder) Tubeling
Description
Small, multi-stemmed, nitrogen-fixing shrub of wet soils around water. A good wetland indicator plant, with a southern and northern range. Tends to form thickets. Known to produce more seed and have more compact and prolific branching than many other Alder species. Its fibrous root system and malleable stems make it a great candidate for erosion control and soil stabilization. Most common natural stands are found near stream banks and boggy areas.
