ARCTOSTAPHYLOS UVA-URSI (Bearberry) 32 ct. Tubeling
Description
Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, commonly known as bearberry is a low-growing evergreen shrub native to northern regions of North America. This plant typically reaches a height of 6 to 12 inches and spreads horizontally, forming dense ground cover. It features small, leathery, dark green leaves that turn reddish or bronze in the fall. In late spring, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi produces small, urn-shaped, pink to white flowers, which are followed by red berries that persist into winter.
Bearberry is well-suited to a variety of challenging conditions, including dry, acidic soils and rocky or sandy landscapes. Its tolerance for low-nutrient environments and ability to form a dense mat make it a popular choice for erosion control and ground cover in landscaping. Additionally, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi has historical significance in indigenous medicine, where its leaves were used for various medicinal purposes. The plant also provides habitat and food for wildlife, contributing to its ecological value.Â
