Description

Elymus riparius, commonly known as riverbank wildrye, is a robust, cool-season grass native to moist lowlands and streambanks in North America. It grows 3–5 feet tall and forms dense clumps with upright, arching leaves. Its seed heads, appearing in late summer, provide visual interest and food for wildlife.

This grass is frequently used in riparian restoration projects due to its tolerance for moist soils and its ability to stabilize eroding banks. It is also valuable for creating naturalized meadows and wetland buffers. Its adaptability and vigorous growth make it an excellent choice for projects requiring quick establishment and erosion control.
