Juncus effusus (Soft Rush) Seed, NJ Ecotype
Description
Juncus effusus is a perennial wetland plant with smooth, upright, cylindrical stems that grow 2–4 feet tall. It thrives in saturated soils, often forming dense clumps in wetlands, marshes, and along streambanks. Tiny, greenish-brown flowers bloom in clusters near the tops of the stems during the summer months.
Soft rush is widely used in wetland restoration, erosion control, and stormwater management due to its ability to stabilize soil and filter water. It provides excellent habitat for small aquatic animals and nesting materials for birds. Its striking vertical growth adds visual interest to rain gardens, retention basins, and naturalized landscapes.
