Nyssa sylvatica, or blackgum, is a medium-sized deciduous tree native to eastern North America, reaching heights of 30€“75 feet. It is known for its glossy, dark green leaves that turn brilliant shades of scarlet, orange, and yellow in fall. Blackgum grows well in a range of soils, including wet and acidic conditions. Its small, blue-black fruits are highly favored by wildlife. Blackgum also provides excellent habitat value, offering nesting sites and food for birds and pollinators.
