Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering

Who can buy from Pinelands?

We're a wholesale nursery and sell to the trade: landscape and horticulture businesses, schools and universities, and government agencies. If you're a homeowner, you can buy our plants through our retail partner, Pinelands Direct Native Plants.

How do I open a trade account?

Fill out our trade account application. We review new applications within two hours during business hours, and we may ask for a little information to verify your business. Once you're approved, you'll get an email inviting you to sign in.

How do I sign in?

Click the account icon and enter your email address. We'll email you a one-time code, so there's no password to remember. If the code doesn't arrive within a minute, check your spam or junk folder.

Why can't I see prices or availability?

Make sure you're signed in. If you're signed in and still can't see them, your application may still be under review. Email web@pinelandsnursery.com if you need help.

Can I order online?

Yes. Once you're approved, you'll see your account pricing and live availability, and you can order at any time. Your trade dashboard has downloadable availability lists and your recent orders.

Do you have order minimums?

Our plants are grown in trays and containers, so we sell them in these minimum quantities per species:

  • Plugs and tubelings: one full flat (50-cell plugs, or 32- or 72-cell tubelings)
  • #1 and #2 containers: 10 plants per species
  • #5 and #7 containers: 3 plants per species
  • Seed: whole pounds, with a 5 lb minimum on custom mixes

When should I place my order?

Spring ordering opens January 1 and fall ordering opens July 1, and we take orders for the current season only. Availability changes quickly in our busy seasons, so order as soon as you know what you need. Placing your order reserves your plants.

How do I get a quote?

Add what you need to your cart and go to checkout. Click Download a quote with these totals for an instant PDF quote with your account pricing and delivery cost. Quoted prices are valid for 30 days. For freight delivery, tick I need a quote before ordering and our shipping team will email you a quote with freight pricing as soon as it's ready.

What happens after I order?

You'll get an order confirmation right away. We'll then email you to schedule your pickup or confirm your ship or delivery date, and your order isn't scheduled until you reply.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Please give us at least 2 business days' notice. Changes or cancellations with less notice, or after your order has been pulled or loaded, carry a 25% fee on the affected items. See our policies for holds and custom orders.

Shipping & Pickup

What delivery options do you offer?

The options you see at checkout depend on what you're ordering, your order total and where it's going:

  • Pickup: free from our nursery in Columbus, NJ, Monday through Friday, 8am to 3pm, scheduled at least 2 business days ahead. You'll receive a pickup number once it's scheduled.
  • UPS: for plugs, tubelings and seed, with no minimum. UPS orders ship Monday through Wednesday, scheduled at least 2 business days ahead. Containers and trees too tall for UPS can't ship this way.
  • Pinelands truck: for orders of $1,000 or more within our delivery area. Our trucks arrive between 7am and 8am; please have someone on site to unload.
  • Freight: for orders of $1,000 or more outside our delivery area. Tick I need a quote before ordering at checkout and we'll email you freight pricing.

Where do you ship?

Throughout the continental United States.

How much does shipping cost?

UPS and truck delivery are priced at checkout based on your order and destination; the final cost is set when your order ships. You can download a quote with these totals at checkout before you commit. Full details are in our Shipping Policy.

What if something's wrong with my order?

Check your order when it arrives, and email sales@pinelandsnursery.com within 10 days with your order number and clear photos. See our Refund Policy for how we make it right.

Plants & Sizes

What plants do you grow?

Plants native to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, most grown from locally collected, wild-source seed. Browse everything in our catalog.

What sizes do you grow?

  • Herbaceous plants: mainly 50-cell, 2-inch plug trays
  • Ferns: 32-cell tubelings
  • Shrubs: 32- or 72-cell tubelings, and #1 and #5 containers
  • Trees: 32-cell tubelings, and #2 and #7 containers

How can I see what's available?

Once you're signed in, product pages show live availability, and many show when the next crop is expected. Your trade dashboard has downloadable availability lists. For future availability, email sales@pinelandsnursery.com.

Do you custom grow?

We do. Email sales@pinelandsnursery.com with the species and sizes you're looking for.

Native Seed & Mixes

How do you sell seed?

By the Pure Live Seed (PLS) pound unless noted otherwise, in whole pounds. PLS accounts for purity and germination, so you pay for the amount of viable seed you receive. Each seed mix page has a downloadable spec sheet.

How long does a seed order take?

Every seed order is mixed and packaged to order, so please allow at least 72 hours.

Can I get a custom mix or a species you don't list?

Yes. Email seed@pinelandsnursery.com for pricing. Custom mixes have a 5 lb minimum.

Pricing, Payment & Tax

Where can I find your prices?

Prices for your account appear on our website once you're signed in. Plants are priced by the flat or pot and seed by the pound.

When am I charged?

Your card is charged when your order ships or is picked up. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express, as well as checks for invoiced orders.

Can I be invoiced?

Customers with established credit may qualify for Net 30 terms. To apply for a credit account, email ar@pinelandsnursery.com; applications usually take about four weeks. First orders are always paid at shipment or pickup.

Do plants come with ID tags?

All containerized plants are labeled, and each flat comes with one ID tag. Extra tags for flats are $0.25 each, up to one per plant.

Do you charge sales tax?

We collect sales tax in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts, based on where you receive your plants. Pickups are taxed in New Jersey.

How do I order tax-exempt?

Submit your tax exemption certificate with your trade account application. Certificates must be for the state where you receive your plants. Once it's on file, eligible orders are tax-free. If tax appears on your first order, we'll remove it before your card is charged.

What about a tax-exempt job?

Job exemptions apply to one project at a time. At checkout, tick "This order is for a tax-exempt job" and add the project name, then upload the job's certificate on our job certificate page (there's also a link in your order confirmation email). We'll remove the tax before your card is charged.
