Penstemon digitalis (Foxglove Beardtongue) Seed
Description
Penstemon digitalis, or Foxglove Beardtongue, is a hardy, herbaceous perennial native to eastern and central North America. It thrives in prairies, meadows, and woodland edges, growing 3–5 feet tall. The plant produces elegant, tubular white to pale pink flowers with a faint purple tint, arranged in upright clusters on sturdy stems from late spring to early summer. The glossy, lance-shaped green leaves form a basal rosette that remains attractive throughout the growing season.
Foxglove Beardtongue is a valuable addition to pollinator gardens, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its nectar-rich blooms. It prefers full sun to partial shade and adapts to a variety of soil types, including clay and sandy soils. Its drought tolerance and low maintenance make it an excellent choice for naturalistic plantings and restoration projects. Additionally, its upright growth and long-lasting flowers make it a popular ornamental plant for mixed borders and native landscapes.
