Description

Viburnum dentatum, or arrowwood viburnum, is a deciduous shrub native to eastern North America, typically growing 6 to 12 feet tall. It gets its name from its straight, slender branches historically used to make arrows. The shrub produces clusters of small, creamy-white flowers in late spring to early summer, which are highly attractive to pollinators. By fall, it forms dark blue to black drupes that serve as an important food source for birds.

This viburnum thrives in a wide range of soils, from moist to well-drained, and is often found in forests, wetlands, and along streams. Its glossy green leaves turn vibrant shades of yellow, orange, or red in autumn. Arrowwood viburnum is commonly used in native landscaping, wildlife gardens, and ecological restoration projects due to its adaptability and ecological value.
