Monarch populations have shrunken considerably over the past 20 years. This butterfly species needs more pollinator habitat to increase its survival on its migration of over 2,500 miles from Canada to Mexico. This mix is made up of all of the forbs and some grasses that monarchs need. Milkweed is a very important host plant for the monarch butterfly. Did you know that Asclepias syriaca (common milkweed), is one of the only plants on which the monarch lays its eggs and their larvae will feed and develop there all the way into a chrysalis? Although milkweeds are essential for monarch caterpillars and larvae, the adults love to forage on the nectar of a variety of other plants too! This mix is loaded with the perfect resources for adult monarchs to build up fat reserves for their journey and help them to sustain themselves through the winter.
