A dedicated milkweed planting for growers and restoration projects that want to go all-in on monarch butterfly host-plant habitat, without the broader wildflower mix.
Mix Overview
This is a milkweed-only blend, combining four regionally native Asclepias species - swamp milkweed, eastern swamp milkweed, common milkweed, and butterfly weed - chosen to cover a range of site moisture conditions from average upland soil to consistently damp ground. Together they provide the orange, light pink, and dark purple bloom color range typical of native milkweeds while ensuring monarch caterpillars have host plants available regardless of exactly where within a planting area conditions run wetter or drier.
Application
- Dedicated monarch butterfly host-plant plantings
- Milkweed patches within larger pollinator or meadow restoration projects
- Butterfly garden and demonstration plantings focused on monarch life cycle education
- Supplementing existing pollinator plantings that are light on milkweed content
Growing Conditions / Specification Data
- Light: Full Sun to Part Shade
- Site Conditions: Adaptable across average to consistently moist soils
- Recommended Seeding Rate: 35 lbs. per acre
- Mix Type: Native milkweed-only blend (Asclepias species)
Planting Guidance
Broadcast or drill seed into a prepared, weed-free seedbed in spring or late fall. Milkweed seed benefits from cold, moist stratification before spring planting; fall seeding allows this to occur naturally over winter.
Please allow 3 business days for all seed orders.
