A hardy, low-maintenance blend built specifically for the tough growing conditions along highways and roadside corridors, doing double duty as stormwater management and living snow control.
Mix Overview
This mix combines common and butterfly milkweed, partridge pea, lanceleaf tickseed, purple coneflower, Virginia wild-rye, purple lovegrass, and false sunflower into a hardy, self-sustaining planting suited to the compacted, disturbed soils typical of roadside and highway margins. Beyond its pollinator and wildlife value, the planting helps slow, absorb, and filter roadway runoff, reducing erosion and improving downstream water quality, and functions as a living snow barrier that catches drifting snow before it reaches driving lanes.
Application
- Highway and roadside corridor plantings
- Woodland border and transitional edge plantings
- Stormwater management along paved or compacted surfaces
- Low-maintenance alternative to mowed roadside turf
Growing Conditions / Specification Data
- Light: Full Sun to Part Shade
- Site Conditions: Adaptable to average, compacted, or disturbed soils
- Recommended Seeding Rate: 15 lbs. per acre
- Mix Type: Hardy native wildflower and grass blend for roadside use
Planting Guidance
Broadcast or drill seed into a prepared, weed-free seedbed in spring or late fall. Light raking or rolling after seeding improves soil-to-seed contact. Minimal mowing (typically once per year, after seed set) maintains the planting long-term.
Please allow 3 business days for all seed orders.
