940: Deer Resistant Rain Garden Mix

The deer-resistant answer to our standard rain garden mix, built from species deer are less inclined to browse without giving up any of the wet-dry cycle tolerance a functioning rain garden depends on.

Mix Overview

This mix pairs the demanding site tolerance of a true rain garden planting - species able to handle brief standing water after storms and drought conditions as the basin dries back out - with a species list selected for reduced deer palatability, giving properties with real deer pressure a workable option for green infrastructure plantings that might otherwise get browsed to the ground.

Planting Guidance

Broadcast or drill seed into a prepared, weed-free seedbed in spring or late fall. Light raking or rolling after seeding improves soil-to-seed contact. No native seed mix is fully deer-proof; fencing or repellent may still be warranted during establishment in areas of heavy deer pressure.
