941: Deer Resistant Upland Meadow Mix

A native alternative for gardeners tired of deer treating their ornamental beds like a buffet, built from species Pinelands' own growers don't typically see deer damage in their upland plantings.

Mix Overview

Common yarrow, big bluestem, swamp and common milkweed, butterfly weed, blue wild indigo, partridge pea, lanceleaf tickseed, purple coneflower, Virginia wild-rye, purple lovegrass, and rattlesnake master combine into a full pollinator-meadow blend for upland sites, selected specifically around species with a track record of being left alone by deer. As with any deer-resistant planting, this mix is not guaranteed to stay damage-free in every situation - deer behavior varies by location and pressure - but it reflects genuine, observed browsing patterns rather than a generic list.

Planting Guidance

Broadcast or drill seed into a prepared, weed-free seedbed in spring or late fall. Light raking or rolling after seeding improves soil-to-seed contact. No native seed mix is fully deer-proof; fencing or repellent may still be warranted during establishment in areas of heavy deer pressure.
