One of the largest and most distinctive native ferns available, royal fern's coarse, widely-separated leaflets set it apart from every other fern in the catalog - tolerant enough to thrive in full sun given consistently boggy conditions, even growing directly in shallow water.
Species Overview
Osmunda regalis, or royal fern, is one of the largest ferns in non-tropical North America, reaching 5 feet or more in height. Its large, broad fronds are composed of numerous small leaflets that give it a pea-family-like appearance quite unlike most other ferns. The spore-producing inflorescence at the top of fertile fronds resembles a cluster of flowers, earning it the alternate common name "flowering fern."
