More information on the 2027 crop to come
A confirmed, genuinely deer-resistant native groundcover, golden ragwort is a strong alternative to invasive English ivy or Japanese pachysandra - spreading readily by rhizome and seed to form dense colonies while supporting several named small-bee specialists in early spring.
Species Overview
Packera aurea, commonly called golden ragwort or golden groundsel, is a rhizomatous, spreading, semi-evergreen perennial native to moist woods, meadows, and stream banks from Ontario to Florida along the East Coast. It produces flat-topped clusters of brilliant yellow, daisy-like flowers atop sparsely-leaved stems in spring, rising above a basal rosette of heart-shaped, dark green leaves that are purple beneath.
